A progressive camping programme is an integral part of the Primary experience at St Peter’s. Students from Years 1- 6 attend camps ranging from one day to four days. Our camping programmes are developed in conjunction with Crusader’s Summit Educational Camps.
Students in Years 1 and 2 have a ‘day camp’ at school where they participate in variety of indoor and outdoor activities, allowing them to have an introduction to the style of camps that they will participate in..
Year 3 students attend a day camp at Galston Gorge and return to school to sleep over. The aim of this camp is to help prepare them for the Outdoor Education Programme undertaken from Year 4 onwards and get used to sleeping overnight away from home.
Camps in Years 4-6 foster a different style of learning, as students and teachers spend a number of days together sharing everything and realising the importance of considering the needs of others. Programmes offer team-building activities and many physically demanding challenge by choice activities such as Abseiling, Canoeing, Archery and Orienteering. These camps also provide opportunities for personal and spiritual reflection in idyllic bush or lake settings.
Years 4 – 6 enjoy camps at Lake Macquarie, Mount Victoria and Greenhill’s (Canberra). As a part of their camps, Years 5 and 6 also attend a variety of educational curriculum based experiences. Year 5 spend the day learning about the discovery of Gold in Australia in Bathurst/Hill End, whilst Year 6 have the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture and heritage in Canberra. Please refer to our Camping Programme FAQ sheet for further information.
