Life Through Christ

At St Peter’s, we celebrate the incredible journey that takes place in the early years of child development.

We place great value on providing an outstanding Pre-Kindergarten program that aims to give our students the best opportunity to thrive as they prepare for formal schooling. We recognise that each child comes to school with their own interests, strengths, and prior experiences that have shaped them in their journey of learning thus far. It is our role as early years educators to nurture the uniqueness of each child and to facilitate learning experiences that engage and challenge growing minds.

Minimum Age for Entry

Children must turn four years old before 30 April in the year they enter Pre-Kindergarten.

School Terms and Class Options

There are a number of separate Pre-Kindergarten classes across the week, with options for 2, 3 or 5 day attendance. The classes operate during all four school terms.

Play-based learning

Through inquiry, students explore a vast range of key learning areas through play experiences. Play guides the direction of our learning through teacher observation, questioning and student-led inquiry.

Successful Transition to Kindergarten

Pre-Kindergarten at St Peter's provides the opportunity for students to thrive as they prepare for formal schooling.

Christian Focus

At St Peter’s, we embrace our school motto of ‘Life Through Christ,’ sharing it with all our students, including our youngest Pre-Kindergarten students, from the very first moment they step through the school gates. Life Through Christ shapes everything we do, as we continually strive to equip students not only for their time at St Peter’s but also as they progress into high school.  Our inquiry units are thoughtfully explored through a Biblical lens, fostering in students a deep sense of wonder and curiosity for the incredible world God has created. It is our heartfelt aim to nurture this curiousity, helping students appreciate the beauty and purpose of God’s creation.

Pre- Kindergarten

Learning

At St Peter’s, we recognise that early literacy and numeracy development play a vital role in preparing our students for formal schooling. We strive to provide rich opportunities for our students to develop their literacy and numeracy skills through structured lessons and play. We draw on current educational research to implement programs to support our students in developing key foundational skills that will be built upon as they transition into Kindergarten. With this strong foundation, we give our students a springboard to thriving as they start school.

Pre-Kindergarten

Inquiry/Culture

Inquiry shapes a significant part of our learning culture. In our Pre- Kindergarten programs, we draw on the natural curiosity of our students to drive our Units of Inquiry. We find out what they already know, remembering that each child brings with them a wealth of knowledge, and encourage our students to question and investigate through experiences that promote play, discovery and exploration. Through inquiry, our Pre-Kindergarten students take their first steps towards developing the knowledge, conceptual understanding and skills to guide them in becoming global citizens who can make a difference in their own lives, their communities, and beyond.

Pre-Kindergarten

Environment

Our purpose-built Pre-Kindergarten facilities are situated on the school grounds in dedicated indoor and outdoor learning areas designed to suit the educational and developmental needs of our students. In each of our learning spaces, we strive to honour the role that play has in child development. At first glance, it may seem that our students are merely just ‘playing’, but play-based learning truly is the beating heart of all that we do in the early years at St Peter’s.  The learning possibilities through play are endless and we highly regard our students’ ability to construct their own learning through play.
