Teaching and learning programs are developed in alignment with the NESA Syllabus documents, which outline the specific outcomes and content students are expected to achieve throughout their schooling. The professional learning of our teaching staff is a priority at St Peter’s as we strive to continually develop the knowledge and expertise to develop and deliver quality teaching and learning programs that facilitate student learning to meet NSW curriculum requirements.
Specialist teachers deliver Music, Languages (German and French), Physical Education and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) lessons to all students from Kindergarten to Year 6.
Our Pre-Kindergarten students participate in Music, Physical Education and Library Lessons to support their preparation for formal schooling.
At St Peter’s, we aim to equip our students for a life lived through Christ. Each week, students engage in daily devotions and worship through song, prayer and reading the Bible. From Kindergarten to Year 6, students participate in weekly Biblical Studies lessons, where they deepen their understanding of God’s profound love for all people. Chapel is a treasured part of our program, where students engage with God’s word, explore biblical teachings, and reflect on Jesus’ extraordinary sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins. It is our hope to help all students experience and fully embrace God’s love through the grace of Jesus, our Saviour.
Literacy skills are essential for student engagement and success across the curriculum. We explicitly teach foundational literacy skills in a structured, literature-rich environment, empowering students to use language effectively. Literacy Extension classes support students in Years 3–6 who require extension.
Numeracy is vital in daily life, and we strive to develop confident, creative mathematicians with strong mathematical skills. From Year 2, Mathematics is taught in flexible, ability-based groups to enhance differentiation and build essential numeracy skills.
We recognise that every student brings valuable knowledge and perspectives to their school experience. By fostering curiosity and encouraging thoughtful questioning, we support them in seeking diverse viewpoints, analysing information, and understanding how their actions can contribute to positive change.
As a learning community, we equip students with the knowledge, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving skills needed to become responsible global citizens who demonstrate Christ’s love in their interactions with others and show deep care for God’s creation. Students learn to collaborate, reflect, and take action by serving others, fostering innovation, and recognising their ability to make a meaningful difference in the world.
At St Peter’s, teachers are committed to delivering meaningful and engaging learning experiences that equip students with essential skills and understanding. Lessons are thoughtfully planned, emphasising explicit instruction to develop knowledge and skills. Differentiated strategies address individual learning needs and preferences, ensuring every student has opportunities for success. Additionally, Learning Enhancement programs provide further support for students’ learning and development when required, as well as opportunities to extend and enrich student learning.
St Peter’s has a variety of specialist learning lessons, taught weekly. We have a dedicated STEAM classroom with extensive resources. Our well-equipped Music building offers a wide range of musical opportunities for both large and small groups. Students attend a specialised PE lesson each week utilising a wide range of sporting facilities and equipment. Our French and German lessons are also offered throughout the year with age appropriate programs.
We take pride in our ability to offer all students within the school an enriched program in relation to Music curriculum requirements. St Peter’s utilises the skills of Music Specialists in planning and delivering vigorous learning experiences, developing essential skills in performing, composing and appreciating music of a wide variety of genres. Our co-curricular offerings in relation to Music are diverse. These opportunities allow students to further build upon their classroom knowledge and develop the skills to work collaboratively with others. Participating in these groups is a highly rewarding experience as students share their love of Music with each other.
Students in Years 3–6 have weekly PE and Sports lessons and participate in extended Wednesday School Sports from Year 3, with opportunities to trial for representative teams. They develop fundamental movement skills and engage in team-building sports, sometimes with specialist coaches in sports like Tennis, AFL, Netball, Cricket, and Soccer.
Students can represent St Peter’s through IPSSO and compete in Swimming, Cross Country, and Athletics Carnivals, with opportunities to progress to zone (IPSHA), regional (CIS), and state (PSSA) levels. IPSHA and CIS trials are available for Years 4–6 students excelling in representative sports outside of school.
