Welcome to Junior Primary.

Junior Primary comprises of Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 and seeks to develop students who are curious, confident and enthusiastic to learn.

Through engaging and innovative teaching and learning across all key learning areas, students are provided with the support they require to be successful learners.

Students have access to a range of information technology and enjoy specialist lessons in Music, Language and Physical Education.  Junior Primary is an exciting place to be and ensures that students are well prepared to meet the challenges that await them in Year 3 and beyond.

The Junior Primary Experience

Learning

Our Kindergarten – Year 2 teachers focus on strong explicit teaching of Literacy and Numeracy skills, which support participation in other areas of the curriculum. Our Learning Enhancement staff assist class teachers to both extend and support student’s learning as well as provide specific instruction for those whom English is not their home language.

Specialist staff provide learning in the areas of Music, Languages, Physical Education and Technology Skills.

Our Junior Primary students are encouraged to be active learners, who strive to improve their skills and better understand the world around them.

Environment

Students in Kindergarten have dedicated playground spaces enabling safe, age appropriate activities and the opportunity to form strong peer relationships. With space to run, play and explore, Years 1 and 2 make a transition to spending playtimes both outside and in the Library with the Primary students.

Classrooms are alive with colour, work samples, evidence of students thinking and wondering and resources which assist and enhance learning. Our classrooms are busy, productive places, where students are encouraged to communicate, create, take risks and fulfil their potential.

Relationships

In Junior Primary, each student is known and catered for as an individual. The class teacher is primarily responsible for the pastoral care of the students, however, all staff take responsibility for the wellbeing of our students.

Our Buddy Group program ensures that students are encouraged to form relationships across the year levels and Kindergarten thrive under the care of their Year 6 Buddy.
